The Gold Standard

The Gold Standard

Since dyslexia is neurological weakness in origin, our approach to effective treatment is to build new neuro pathways. In other words the right kind of instruction will ‘re-wire’ the brain allowing it to build new connections. We train the brain to recognize patterns and through multisensory instruction and repetition, the brain becomes more adept at accessing those patterns developing the automaticity that is necessary to overcome what was once a weakness.

Establishing these new neuro pathways is done using the Orton-Gillingham Approach, the gold standard for remediation of reading and spelling skills.

Achieve More Reading Center utilizes the Orton Gillingham Approach at the very core of its individualized instructional format. Every student’s instructional plan will include reading, spelling, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension and will incorporate these four key components:

1. Multi-sensory Instruction
a. Visual b. Auditory c. Kinesthetic

2. Explicit Instruction:
Leaves no room for guessing

3. Systematic Instruction
Everything must be presented in a logical sequence

4. Repetitive Instruction

No program, alone, will teach a student, it will only be as good as the instructor who is teaching it. Achieve More tutors are well trained, experienced and are purposeful in establishing connections with students. Once remediation is underway, it is time to make sure the appropriate accommodations are in place because remediation without classroom accommodations will force failure. Your tutor can offer suggestions for ways to assure your child gets the right kind of assistance in the classroom setting.
